Welcome to the Annex Singers

Welcome to the online home of the Annex Singers, an eclectic, sixty-voice community choir.
The Annex Singers of Toronto is one of the city’s oldest community choirs. It began in 1979, with a small group of people singing Christmas carols in the Annex neighbourhood under the direction of Lesia Deacon, a pianist and music teacher, who was our first music director. Since that time, it has grown to a membership of sixty choristers.
For the past five years, the choir has flourished under the able direction of Maria Case. Conducting the Annex Singers since 2005, Maria has brought dynamic leadership and inventive programming to the choir, including some of her own compositions.
Typically, two formal concerts are held each year, as well as outreach performances in various downtown Toronto locations and a themed cabaret at the close of the season. The cabaret provides a supportive and light-hearted venue for fledgling performers.
The 2010-11 season opened with a December 10th concert, Christmas at Holy Rosary, exploring works from the past six hundred years, with guest ensemble Broadview Brass. The season continued with our spring presentation, Choral Masterworks on April 9, 2011. Our final performance of the season was our cabaret, The Weather Report, on May 28, 2011.
As we begin another fantastic season of singing, we invite you to join us!
